South New Jersey
South New Jersey is a colloquial term for the area covering the Southern portions of the State of New Jersey between the lower Delaware River and the Atlantic Ocean. Southern New Jersey is closely associated with the city of Philadelphia. Southern New Jersey is theoretically the area within the Philadelphia sphere of influence, whereas North and Central New Jersey are considered to be within the New York sphere of influence.
The Southern area of New Jersey has the "Jersey Shore" an area of adjacent resort and residential communities. Its popularity as a tourist destination is due in large part to the nearly continuous stretch of beaches along its length, as well as rides and concessions along the many boardwalks. Atlantic City is also at "the Shore" and this draws millions of tourists each year, looking for the excitement of the many casinos and hotels there.
