Commuting From Westfield, NJ

Many people working in Manhattan and surrounding areas are drawn to live in Westfield, NJ.  It’s ideal to live in a pretty town, with an active town center and have easy access by rail and bus service into New York City.

By Rail

New Jersey Transit’s Raritan Valley Line provides rail service from the Westfield train station into Newark Penn Station and then a direct connection of one stop into Penn Station New York.  There is also a direct train running non-stop from Westfield to Newark Penn Station  several times during both morning and evening rush hours.  On the non-stop service, the average one-way journey time from Westfield to Penn Station New York is about 50 minutes.

There is also the popular connection to the PATH Rapid Transit System train from Newark Penn Station that travels via Jersey City to downtown Manhattan.

By Bus

For those who prefer to travel by bus, New Jersey Transit operates Bus Line No 113.  It stops outside Westfield Train Station, on the north side, and travels to the Port Authority in Midtown Manhattan.  A one-way trip takes approximately 55 minutes.

In addition, express service to New York City is available along Route 22 on the northern edge of Westfield  (New Jersey Transit bus routes 114 & 117).

Parking

For information regarding purchasing permits for commuter parking, you should contact Westfield’s Parking Service Department at (908) 789-4044.  There is a waiting list for commuter permits.  For general parking, metered parking is available throughout the town.  There are also several public parking lots with pay stations.  Daily parking permits are available in Lot 3 on a first-come, first-served basis for $5 a day.

By Road

Westfield is located about 25 miles south-west of New York City.  It is conveniently located for access to major roads including the Garden State Parkway, route I-78 and route 22.  The New Jersey Turnpike and route I-287 are just a short drive away.

Airport

Westfield is about a 20 minute drive from Newark Liberty International Airport, a major gateway for both continental and international flights.
